If you have tried Paleo, clean eating, and other “natural” food diets, you are probably used to honey, agave and maple as being acceptable ingredients because they all come from natural sources. However, NONE of these are ok on the Ketogenic diet. The reason is simply that despite their natural origins, these all spike insulin which is what we are trying to avoid in keto. Don’t let the “natural” label fool you. Just because it is natural does not make it ok. Here are some resources to help you understand why these are not keto approved. Remember, the goal of keto is no sugar and no insulin spikes. Even a small amount is enough to spike insulin.
